[RESOLVED] i cant select any vertex in vertex mode

1) import model obj as editablepoly into new scene
2) add BonesPro modifier
3) assign bones
4) select vertex in vertex mode
Rectangular Selection drag : NG ... i cant select any vertex
ctrl +a : OK ... select all works fine
ctrl + a -> alt + Rectangular Selection drag : NG ... not removed from current selection

its not always but happens frequently.
why?

I'm having exactly the same problem. I didn't import the mesh as an OBJ and the mesh itself isn't pretty but it is all quads. I can select vertices from the Select Unlinked Vertices option and then shrink or grow the selection but i can't select anything with the cursor.

Thinking out loud, I saw in one of the videos Igor had an edit poly modifier on the stack but i don't see how that would help.

Pooh, have you made any progress with this one?

It seems to have something to do with the vertex or polygon count cos when I applied a combination of prooptimizer and quadify the problem goes away. I seem to recall that there is a limit (20 000? 30 000?) but I can't recall where I stumbled on it.

Anyone?

Same for me here, 51k character, 4.63+3DSMAX 2014. CTRL-A works but I can't select by any means any vertex. This is REALLY annoying.

Many things are really annoying, each time i delete a linked and skinned structure, 3dsMax crashes. Even now in 2015. No reason to turn caps on for such and each everyday things which make life more thrilling :).
Back to the main subject:

we have isolated some of the problems in max which have changed in the past releases and i think we have found a piece of code that reflect your problem in some cases. It took longer since it is not documented in MaxSDK and we have to wait for ages for Autodesk to answer us what this trash "REALLY" means. We have now at the end done some work-around, the new release is on the way and it will both fix it and bring new features.
